"I'm very much in favor of the Fairness Act and have led groups to lobby Senators to vote in favor of it for the last two years. It is an obvious first step to protecting our LGBTQ+ community from discrimination."

"Trans athletes deserve a chance to participate fully in all school activities, in the gender with which they identify. Full stop."

"As a career educator in a Quaker school, I teach the banned book list. Banning books takes us back. Professionals do a great job curating collections by age in school settings: teachers, librarians, and administrators. There is no role for the state government except to approve the full and fair education funding that the schools will use to buy the books in the first place and hire the professional staff to do their work. While there have been book challenges in the past, this is a contrived issue over the last 5 years that is meant to divide us."

On LGBTQ+ rights, "this is an area of special importance in my personal life and in my candidacy, and I will be a tireless and unapologetic advocate. My eldest son was trans, my daughter is gay, and the continued persecution of our local youth here in Lancaster is something I want to end at the state level. In addition, as a middle school teacher, my classroom and school are a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth. We advocate in Harrisburg and Washington DC every year, and we also hold a youth advocacy conference for middle and high school GSAs. in other words, I can back up my slogan that PA can do better, and we deserve better."

"I oppose discrimination against any vulnerable group for any reason. I am a long-time advocate for equality, and our campaign is honored to be endorsed by the Human Rights Campaign."

"I am not a member of the LGBTQ+ community, but I have been an advocate for a long time, attending my first Pride while living in New York in 2002 and living and working in mostly queer communities in the city. Later, I supported same-sex marriage while living in San Francisco during California's Proposition 8 fight in 2008. A colleague recently described me to another organizer as "not queer himself, but unabashedly pro-queer," and I was very proud of the compliment. I have been an advocate for equality, equity, and justice, and I will continue to support and protect the LGBTQ+ community in the PA Senate."
